- Tourism careers for Youth
- A national program that assists unempoyed high school
graduates between the ages of 18-29 with the transition from school to work.
A mix of classroom and on-the-job training is offered. The participant will
gain the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed for a job in the tourism industry.

- Katimavik
- For 9 months, you'll live with 10 people aged 17 to 21 from every
region in Canada. You'll learn french, work as a volunteer for community projects in three
different provinces. Besides benefiting form diverse training through volunteer work,
Katimavik provides you with ongoing training through its five learning programs:
- * Leadership
- * Second Language
- * Environment
- * Cultural Discovery
- * Healthy Lifestyle
The program usually begins in Septmeber and January, but application deadlines are

- Youth Employment Strategy
- The Youth Employment Strategy is the Government of Canada's committment to help young people
make a successful transition to the workplace. Due to the changing needs of Canada's youth; the Youth Employment
Strategy underwent major changes. The new strategy will include 3 programs:
- * Skills Link
- * Career Focus
- * Summer Work Experience
You are eligible to become a participant of the Youth Employment Strategy if you are:
- * a youth between the ages of 15 and 30(inclusive)
- * legally entitled to work in Canada
- * out of school and facing barriers to employment
- * a Secondary or Post Secondary student returning to full-time studies
- * a Post Secondary graduate
- * not in receipt of EI Benefits

- Linkages Program
- This program provides 26 weeks of career related emploment, to opportunity to
participate in regular career planning worshops, and to earn a completion bonus of up to $470
towards the cost of post secondary education. A linkage client will have to meet the following criteria:
- * Youth aged 18 to 24
- * Have not completed post secondary training
- * Have not made a successful transition to the labour force
- * Be Non EI eligible

- Targeted Wage Subsidies
- A targeted wage subsidy is available to individuals who are having difficulties
finding work. Workers living with a disability or young people with little work experience may benefit
from a targeted wage subsidy. Local HRCC offices can offer temporary wage subsidies tp employers as an
incentive to hire individuals that probably would not hire otherwise. To qualify, a client must be EI eligible.
A targeted wage subsidy normally lasts from 26 to 30 weeks, but can be used for up to 18 months. For more
information contact the Human Resources Centre of Canada nearest to you.
