Working with raw lumber harvested here in Newfoundland and Labrador, Gordon creates beautiful hand-turned wooden
vases, candle holders, bowls, barrel banks, and various other items. Although he utilizes numerous types of wood,
he concentrates largely on using birch and aspen with exotic woods being used for highlighting effects. All pieces
are available in a variety of stains and finishes. This is where Theresa’s expertise plays a major role in the process.
From radiant greens and cherry shades to beeswax, gloss, clear, and matte finishes, Theresa is able to
satisfy the needs and desires of all their customers.
Gordon and Theresa’s products can be found in craft shops across Newfoundland and Labrador as well as throughout Atlantic Canada. They both plan on attending an upcoming eleven day craft fair scheduled for the end of November/beginning of December in Toronto, Ontario. They hope to use this opportunity to promote their business and expand their export base.
In July of 2003, Chapel Arm Woodcrafts received an equity investment of $30,900 to modernize and expand their
facility. The funding, made available through the Department of Industry, Trade, and Rural Development’s
Small Business Seed Capital Equity Program, will enable Gordon and Theresa to maintain two full-time
positions and create one new seasonal position.
Chapel Arm Woodcrafts is an example of a business which has utilized and benefited from the numerous
