- Summer Career Placements
- A wage subsidy program that enables private,
public, and not-for-profit employers to create career-related summer
jobs for students. Placements are available to secondary and post-secondary students.
Placements may range from 6 to 16 weeks. The application deadline is usually
around the end of March of each year. For more information contact your

- Canada's Digital Collections Program
- This program awards funds to Canadian firms, associations,
and institutions to hire teams of young people15 to 30 years of age. The youth
get paid work experience in multimedia production-converting heritage,
science and technology material into a digital format for display on the web.

- SchoolNet Youth Employment Initiative
- Youth are employed in information and communication technology functions, including:
providing technical support to schools and library services;
training teachers, students and public library patrons on the use of the Internet; and
developing on-line learning materials for the kindergarten to grade 12 students.

- Community Access Program (CAP)
- Through the Community Access Program (CAP), youth are
hired to help connect communities across Canada to the information highway
and to promote its use for local economic and social development.

- Computers for Schools Program (CFS)
- This program repairs and refurbishes computer equipment
donated to the program. The computers are then donated to schools and public
libraries across Canada. Students perform repair and refurbishment functions
in one of the program’s 67 repair centres across the country. For more information,

- Innovation and Entrepreneurship Camps
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship camps hire youth
counsellors who plan and present hands-on activities in a fun atmosphere.
Non-profit groups such as science centres, museums, school boards, and
Universities operate these day camps. About 100 youth counsellors are

- YCW in Heritage Organizations
- Up to 800 students are provided with an
opportunity to learn about career choices as they work in museums,
archives, libraries, and other cultural and heritage organizations
across the country. Eligible students are between 16 and 30 years
of age, positions range from 6 to 16 weeks. Interested students can apply

- YCW in National Parks & National Historic Sites
- Up to 350 summer experiences are offered by
Parks Canada to full-time students at selected national parks and national historic
sites across the country. Eligibile students are between the ages of 16 and 18 years
of age. The deadline for the applications is normally for the beginning of May.

- YCW for Aboriginal Urban Youth
- Up to 300 Aboriginal youth living in urban
centres are offered summer work opportunities to gain work-readiness
or career-related experience in the 123 Friendship Centres across
the country. To be eligible Aboriginal students, graduates, or
unemployed youth who are planning to return to school must be
between the ages of 16 and 24. Participants will work between
6 and 16 weeks, beginning in May. Interested applicants can

- RCMP Summer Student Program
- Gives students the opportunity to work
alongside members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The program runs from May to August. The recruiting process usually
starts by mid-January. An applicant must be a full-time College or
University student and they must be returning to full-time studies
in the following academic year. Applicants must be Canadian citizens,
at least 18 years old, in good physical condition and of good character.

- Student Connections
- An initiative of industry Canada whereby university
and College students are hired as student business advisors. These specially
trained and certified students provide customized, hands-on Internet and electronic
commerce training. Students gain valuable on-the-job work experience and make valuable
business contacts, while helping to finance their education. Businesses or students

- YCW in Both Official Languages
- Up to 900 college and university students who speak English
and French are provided with an opportunity to take their language and academic
skills out of the classroom and into the work force. Eligible students speak
English and French well enough to use both languages in a work environment,
are prepared to work for an organization located in another part of the
country or located in a linguistic minority setting. Summer positions range
from 6 to 16 weeks, beginning in early May. Eligibility is limited to youth

- YCW at Building Careers in Heritage
- This program is a variation of the YCW in Heritage
Organizations program, which provides up to 60 internships. It is specifically
designed for college or university graduates who are up to 30 years of age,
are unemployed or underemployed, and are available for a 4 –12 month period.

- YCW at Building Careers in English & French
- This program is a variation of the YCW in both Official
Languages program, which provides up to 15 internships. It is specifically
designed for college or university graduates who are up to 30 years of age,
are unemployed or underemployed, and are available for a 4 –12 month period.

- Student Work and Services Program (SWASP) Paid Employment Component
- This program is funded by the Department of Youth Services and Post Secondary Education
(YSPSE) and is jointly managed by YSPSE and the Department of Human Resources and Employment.
It is designed to assist individuals in attending or returning to a post secondary institution.
Employers will receive $2.50 per hour towards the student's salary for a minimum of 5 weeks to a maximum of 14 weeks.
Students will also receive a $50.00 per week tuition voucher for every week worked under
the program. Applications must originate from employers; however, students may use the Student Work and
Service Program application in their job search. Applications may also be obtained from any office of the Department of HR&E.

- Student Work and Services Program (SWASP) Community Services Component
- Funded by Human Resources Development Canada and administered by the
Community Services Council; this program is designed to assist individuals planning to attend or return to a post secondary institution.
Students will recieve a $50.00 per week stipend to a maximum of $400.00, as well as a $1,400 tuition voucher.
Students must complete an 8 week (280 hours) community service placement. For more information, contact The community Services Council

- Graduate Employment Program
- This program is funded by the Department of Youth Services and Post Secondary Education
(YSPSE) and is jointly managed by YSPSE and the Department of Human Resources and Employment. This
program is designed to help recent post secondary graduated secure valuable work experience in their field of study.
Eligible graduates can use this wage subsidy program to market themselves to employers. To qualify the student must have
successfully completed a post secondary program; minimum duration of one year. The student must be currently unemployed or
under-employed (working less thatn 20 hours per week or working in an area not related to their field of study).
The student must not be an immediate family member of the employer. The student must be Non E.I. eligible. This program will provide 60%
of the starting salary of the approved position, to a maximum of $10,000. The subsidy will cover a period of 52 weeks.
Applications must originate from employers; however, students may use the Student Work and
Service Program application in their job search. Applications may also be obtained from any office of the Department of HR&E.
